I end up playing it zoomed out into the parchment map all the time. Way too much stuff everywhere, hard to tell what is what. It offers three main factions, all based on. but perhaps too pretty it's actually confusing. The game allows the player to lead his army force against the powerful enemy creatures or other online players. People keep talking about how the Endless Legend map is pretty - yeah, it's pretty. It may sound silly, but loading screens are often a excitement-killer for me I can't count how many times I Alt+F4'd a Total War game because I didn't felt like going through a loading screen right now, or how many times I actually wanted to play a bit of Europa Universalis but didn't because I knew the game takes forever to load the first time.Īnother thing that I think is superior in AoW compared to EL is the map design. Additionally there are scenarios, free play with randomly generated maps and a map editor. Now, for one technical thing that I loved about AoW3: the lack of a lengthy loading screen between strategical map and tactical battles. Each faction has a story campaign with six missions each. That's something completely new in a 4X game for me, and it made me want to play EL at least once with each faction, just to see all faction quests.

Those are quests that are actually interesting! They have actually well-written text, with plots that make you want to keep pursuing the quest just to see what happens next. Quite a few other 4X games tried including quests both before and after EL, but none did it right like it did. The leaders have zero personalty by design, so it loses heavily on flavor the victory conditions are rather dull, and everything is way too much focused on the single goal of warfare and nothing else.īut above all else, the one thing that Endless Legend brings to the table, for me, is the excellent Faction Quests.
